The prequalification and procurement process is already underway. But there is still room for suppliers and subcontractors eager to play a role in creating the new light rail traffic system covering 11 municipalities and servicing 13 million passengers annually.
The general procurement process for the new light rail system in Greater Copenhagen is well underway but excellent opportunities still exist for subcontractors and suppliers to partner with and supply new technical solutions for the main contractors. Besides the ongoing construction and civil works tenders, the invitation to supply the trains is still to be made public. The estimated cost of the trains for the 28-km-long system with 28 stations is €175m.
The new light rail will connect the Municipality of Lyngby-Taarbæk in North Zealand with Ishøj Municipality in South Zealand, crossing six Copenhagen S-train stations. It will run at five-minute intervals and carry 200-300 passengers at a time.
The Danish government, the Capital Region of Denmark, and the 11 local authorities where the light rail will run have already made the necessary investments for this major infrastructure project. After the construction phase, government involvement will cease, leaving the Capital Region of Denmark and the 11 local authorities with the responsibility for operations and maintenance, which will be handled Hovedstadens Letbane I/S, a publicly controlled company.
The procurement process is in the prequalification phase, with Danish and international companies invited to bid for the various contracts available.
