As of March 2017, the new National Museum of Natural History will become available for prequalification

A new world-class National Museum of Natural History is planned for construction in Copenhagen. Private foundations, Copenhagen University and the Danish government will finance the construction equivalent to an overall contract sum of approx. €129m. In the beginning of March 2017, the Danish Building and Property Agency, which is the project’s entrepreneur, will invite contractors to prequalify for the contract to be finished in 2020, with construction to start at the end of this year.

This is based on information obtained from Project Manager Hanne Alrø by Building Network. She further explains that the contractors must bid on an EU tender as a general contract subject to negotiation.

– We naturally hope to receive many bids on the construction project, which is in itself a challenging venture for many large contractors. We are actually counting on all the major Danish contractors to make their bids. Great interest has also been expressed by foreign companies, says Hanne Alrø, which emphasises that the overall contract sum of approx. €130m also covers design costs and e.g. architectural competitions.

The building has been designed by architect Claus Pryds, who won both the ideas competition and the final proposal, and a large part of the new building is to be below ground.

The new National Museum of Natural History is based on a joining of the Zoological Museum, Botanical Museum, Geological Museum and the Botanical Garden, all situated in the centre of Copenhagen.
